IBO Foundation a non-profit humanitarian organization, whose objective is the economic development of the Ibo District (Mozambique), through different areas of action; mainly entrepreneurship, gender, training, nutrition, reconstruction and sanitation; opens call to fill the position of Carpentry and Maintenance Coordinatorthe candidate must meet the requirements mentioned below.
Context
As part of its development strategy, IBO Foundation, is committed to intervention in strategic economic sectors, both through the training of professionals trained to work in these sectors and the opening of social enterprises that can offer quality services to the community.
To this end, he opened in 2004 Carpinteria Umbila and in 2020 Ibo Obras & Servicios, carpentry and construction workshops respectively, in which local young people are trained in a practical way in the reconstruction of public infrastructure and rehabilitation of the architectural heritage of the island.
The carpentry workshop has a space equipped with sufficient machinery for the training of young people and the execution of large-scale works. We also have a team of local professionals made up of 5 permanent workers and temporary hires for eventual jobs.
In the carpentry workshop, young apprentices are trained in a practical way, collaborating in the realization of the works. In addition, they receive complementary training in basic skills and abilities.
Functions and responsibilities
- The person to be hired will be responsible for the management of the Umbila Carpentry workshop, including the organization and planning of potential hires, as well as the training plan for young apprentices.
- He will be responsible for the selection, recruitment and training of the personnel under his charge. As well as organizing, reviewing and participating in the training programs that IBO Foundation conduct in
Carpentry and other possible related areas. - You will deal with potential customers, prepare cost sheets, budgets and projects. Record the follow-up of the activities and progress reports of the contracted work, as well as submit accounts to the Foundation’s management.
- To ensure the correct application of resources, according to the approved budget. Prevent, detect and report, if necessary, deviations from budget and any other irregularity that could compromise the correct financial operation of the works.
- Control and management of cash and accounting on a monthly basis with the management with the corresponding originals of the expense vouchers duly numbered and ordered.
- In addition, he/she will have to organize the maintenance tasks of all IBO Foundation in Mozambique and organize logistics work within Ibo Island.
- He/She will also be responsible for the management and control of the vehicle fleet, always maintaining the vehicles in proper working order to ensure their use in the best conditions of efficiency and safety, ensuring compliance with the rules of maintenance and use of vehicles, consumption control, maintenance repairs, minimum safety equipment, etc.
- It is also requested that the person collaborates with other possible assignments related to any of the other projects that IBO Foundation perform during the hiring period and who has availability to vary the initial established schedule.
Academic background
- Specific higher technical training in carpentry and/or construction areas.
It will be valued:
- Additional training in mechanics, electricity and piping.
- Studies related to the execution of architectural and/or civil engineering projects.
Experience and skills
Essential
- Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years working in the execution of carpentry and/or construction projects.
- Knowledge in construction of wooden structures, furniture, rehabilitation of structures, basic constructions, canalization, electricity and mechanics.
- At least 5 years of experience working in developing countries and/or remote and emergency contexts.
- Ability to manage work groups with a low level of training. Ability to work as part of a team, with experience in staff training, coaching and mentoring.
- Teaching skills. Ability to train trainees and work team.
- Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organize a demanding workload comprised of challenging tasks and responsibilities.
- Experience in budgeting and procurement planning, respecting the indications of his superiors and optimizing the company’s resources.
- Strong communication (written and spoken) in Portuguese and English, and strong interpersonal and presentation skills, cultural awareness and ability to improvise and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
- Computer skills (i.e. proficiency in Office suite, Outlook, Internet Explorer, financial systems).
- Good understanding of donor compliance and working with funded projects.
- Flexibility to work in difficult and sometimes unsafe contexts, as well as to travel on short notice as needed.
- Commitment to and understanding of the objectives, values and principles of IBO Foundation. In particular, acceptance of the code of ethics and safety standards.
- Minimum commitment of 2 years.
Desirable
- Technical knowledge in the elaboration of construction drawings and technical designs of installations.
- Teaching experience.
- Previous collaboration with NGOs or volunteer groups.
- Good oral and written knowledge of Spanish and the local language or Swahili.
- Ability to adapt to change in both practices and work schedules, and to work with emergency equipment, if necessary.
- Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work in an international environment with people from different cultural backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain good relations with the community, local leaders and government agencies.
- Valid work permit in Mozambique.
