IBO Foundation a non-profit humanitarian organization, whose objective is the economic development of the Ibo District (Mozambique), through different areas of action; mainly entrepreneurship, gender, training, nutrition, reconstruction and sanitation; opens call to fill the position of Carpentry and Maintenance Coordinatorthe candidate must meet the requirements mentioned below.

Context

As part of its development strategy, IBO Foundation, is committed to intervention in strategic economic sectors, both through the training of professionals trained to work in these sectors and the opening of social enterprises that can offer quality services to the community.

To this end, he opened in 2004 Carpinteria Umbila and in 2020 Ibo Obras & Servicios, carpentry and construction workshops respectively, in which local young people are trained in a practical way in the reconstruction of public infrastructure and rehabilitation of the architectural heritage of the island.

The carpentry workshop has a space equipped with sufficient machinery for the training of young people and the execution of large-scale works. We also have a team of local professionals made up of 5 permanent workers and temporary hires for eventual jobs.

In the carpentry workshop, young apprentices are trained in a practical way, collaborating in the realization of the works. In addition, they receive complementary training in basic skills and abilities.

Functions and responsibilities

  • The person to be hired will be responsible for the management of the Umbila Carpentry workshop, including the organization and planning of potential hires, as well as the training plan for young apprentices.
  • He will be responsible for the selection, recruitment and training of the personnel under his charge. As well as organizing, reviewing and participating in the training programs that IBO Foundation conduct in
    Carpentry and other possible related areas.
  • You will deal with potential customers, prepare cost sheets, budgets and projects. Record the follow-up of the activities and progress reports of the contracted work, as well as submit accounts to the Foundation’s management.
  • To ensure the correct application of resources, according to the approved budget. Prevent, detect and report, if necessary, deviations from budget and any other irregularity that could compromise the correct financial operation of the works.
  • Control and management of cash and accounting on a monthly basis with the management with the corresponding originals of the expense vouchers duly numbered and ordered.
  • In addition, he/she will have to organize the maintenance tasks of all IBO Foundation in Mozambique and organize logistics work within Ibo Island.
  • He/She will also be responsible for the management and control of the vehicle fleet, always maintaining the vehicles in proper working order to ensure their use in the best conditions of efficiency and safety, ensuring compliance with the rules of maintenance and use of vehicles, consumption control, maintenance repairs, minimum safety equipment, etc.
  • It is also requested that the person collaborates with other possible assignments related to any of the other projects that IBO Foundation perform during the hiring period and who has availability to vary the initial established schedule.

Academic background

  • Specific higher technical training in carpentry and/or construction areas.

It will be valued:

  • Additional training in mechanics, electricity and piping.
  • Studies related to the execution of architectural and/or civil engineering projects.

Experience and skills

Essential

  • Demonstrated experience of at least 5 years working in the execution of carpentry and/or construction projects.
  • Knowledge in construction of wooden structures, furniture, rehabilitation of structures, basic constructions, canalization, electricity and mechanics.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in developing countries and/or remote and emergency contexts.
  • Ability to manage work groups with a low level of training. Ability to work as part of a team, with experience in staff training, coaching and mentoring.
  • Teaching skills. Ability to train trainees and work team.
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organize a demanding workload comprised of challenging tasks and responsibilities.
  • Experience in budgeting and procurement planning, respecting the indications of his superiors and optimizing the company’s resources.
  • Strong communication (written and spoken) in Portuguese and English, and strong interpersonal and presentation skills, cultural awareness and ability to improvise and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure.
  • Computer skills (i.e. proficiency in Office suite, Outlook, Internet Explorer, financial systems).
  • Good understanding of donor compliance and working with funded projects.
  • Flexibility to work in difficult and sometimes unsafe contexts, as well as to travel on short notice as needed.
  • Commitment to and understanding of the objectives, values and principles of IBO Foundation. In particular, acceptance of the code of ethics and safety standards.
  • Minimum commitment of 2 years.

Desirable

  • Technical knowledge in the elaboration of construction drawings and technical designs of installations.
  • Teaching experience.
  • Previous collaboration with NGOs or volunteer groups.
  • Good oral and written knowledge of Spanish and the local language or Swahili.
  • Ability to adapt to change in both practices and work schedules, and to work with emergency equipment, if necessary.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work in an international environment with people from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to maintain good relations with the community, local leaders and government agencies.
  • Valid work permit in Mozambique.

Context

Fundación Ibo is a development cooperation project that has been carrying out its activities since 2002 mainly on Ibo Island, Cabo Delgado, Mozambique. It started its activities in 2002 and bases its strategy on the realization of long-term projects.

The objective of the IBO Foundation is the creation of a market for goods and services on the basis of enhancing the island’s resources, integrating the local population in the process and ensuring responsible management of natural resources. It is a comprehensive development project that aims to embrace all sectors of society, enhancing and developing livelihoods to raise the welfare and dignity of its inhabitants.

The IBO Foundation is committed to integral development and makes it possible through a strategy that takes into account the person holistically in all personal, family, social and economic relationships.

For this reason, the Foundation has created, over the years, a connection between projects so that all areas and their components feed back and enrich each other. Thus, the area of sustainable food is connected with gender, employability, etc.

This “synergistic” strategy is the Foundation’s greatest strength, especially because it maximizes the impact, efficiency, effectiveness and ultimately the sustainability of its actions.

Functions and responsibilities

The person to be hired will be responsible for coordinating the activities of the Ibo Foundation in the field.

Will be responsible for:

  • Human resources management at Ibo, including selection, recruitment and training of the staff under his charge, as well as controlling and directing team members.
  • Represent the Foundation before members of the administration, other NGO’s, potential donors, clients or other stakeholders at the local level and negotiate and establish possible collaboration agreements with them.
  • Management, planning and follow-up of activities.
  • Submit monthly activity monitoring reports, final project reports and organize documentation to be submitted to funders in collaboration with the rest of the team.
  • Drafting of the annual summary of activities to be submitted to the different official bodies.
  • Develop proposals for improvement, as well as participate in the creation of new projects, reporting on the situation in the district, needs or demands of the population and possible opportunities to include in the action plans.
  • Collaborate in the design and execution of the internal evaluation and impact measurement plan of the Ibo Foundation.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with headquarters and organize regular team meetings at Ibo.
  • Controlling the stocks and facilities of the Ibo Foundation.
  • Supervise and authorize the purchasing needs of the different departments.
  • To ensure the correct application of resources, according to the approved budget. Prevent, detect and report, if necessary, deviations from the budget and any other irregularities that could compromise the proper financial operation of the activities.
  • Follow-up and cash control of the expenses incurred in Ibo, reporting to management with the corresponding originals of the expense receipts duly numbered and ordered.
  • Collaborate with management on any other activities or tasks as required.
  • Flexibility in relation to working hours and availability to work long working days.

Academic background

  • Higher academic education.

It will be valued:

  • Studies related to the management of cooperation projects.
  • Additional training in team management, impact measurement, Theory of Change, pedagogy, business management, or any other discipline related to the
    activities of the Foundation.

Experience and skills

Fundación IBO, organización humanitaria sin fines lucrativos, cuyo objetivo es el desarrollo económico del Distrito de Ibo (Mozambique), a través de diferentes áreas de actuación; principalmente emprendedurismo, género, formación, nutrición, reconstrucción y saneamiento; abre convocatoria para cubrir el puesto de Coordinador de Infraestructuras y Mantenimiento, debiendo el candidato cumplir con los requisitos abajo mencionados.

 

Contexto

Como parte de su estrategia de desarrollo, Fundación IBO, apuesta por la intervención en sectores económicos estratégicos, tanto a través de la formación de profesionales capacitados para trabajar en dichos sectores como con la apertura de empresas de carácter social que puedan ofrecer servicios de calidad a la comunidad.

Para ello abrió en 2004 la Carpinteria Umbila y en 2020 Ibo Obras & Servicios, talleres de Carpintería y Construcción respectivamente, en los que se forma a jóvenes locales de manera práctica en la reconstrucción de infraestructuras públicas y rehabilitación del patrimonio arquitectónico de la isla.

El taller de Carpintería cuenta con un espacio equipado con maquinaria suficiente para el entrenamiento de jóvenes y la ejecución de trabajos de gran envergadura. También con un equipo de profesionales locales formado por 5 trabajadores permanentes y contrataciones temporales para trabajos eventuales.

Funciones y responsabilidades

  • La persona por contratar deberá ser responsable de la selección, contratación y formación del personal a su cargo. Así como de organizar, revisar y participar en los programas de formación que Fundación IBO lleve a cabo en las diferentes áreas de construcción y mecánica.
  • Deberá tratar con posibles clientes, elaborar hojas de coste, presupuestos y proyectos de obras. Registrar el seguimiento de las actividades e informes del avance de las obras, así como presentar cuentas de los proyectos a la dirección de la Fundación.
  • Velar por la correcta aplicación de los recursos, según el presupuesto aprobado. Prevenir, detectar y comunicar, en caso necesario, las desviaciones respecto al presupuesto y cualquier otra irregularidad que pudiera comprometer el correcto funcionamiento a nivel financiero de los trabajos.
  • Control y gestión de caja y de la contabilidad mensualmente con la dirección con los correspondientes originales de los justificantes del gasto debidamente numerados y ordenados.
  • Además, deberá de organizar las tareas de mantenimiento de todas las infraestructuras de la Fundación IBO en Mozambique y organizar los trabajos de logística dentro de la isla de Ibo.
  • Será también responsable de la gestión y control del parque móvil, manteniendo siempre los vehículos en correcto estado de funcionamiento que garantice su uso en las mejores condiciones de eficiencia y seguridad, asegurando el cumplimiento de las normas de mantenimiento y utilización de los vehículos, control de consumos, mantenimiento reparaciones, equipamiento mínimo de seguridad, etc.
  • Se solicita también que la persona colabore con otros posibles encargos relacionados con cualquiera de los otros proyectos que Fundación IBO realice durante el período de contratación y que tenga disponibilidad para variar el horario inicial establecido.

Formación académica

  • Formación superior técnica específica en áreas de construcción.

 

Se valorará:

  • Formación en carpintería, mecánica, electricidad y canalización.
  • Estudios relacionados con la ejecución de proyectos de arquitectura y/o ingeniería civil.

 

Experiencia y aptitudes

Esencial

  • Experiencia demostrada de al menos 5 años de trabajo en la gestión de proyectos de construcción.
  • Conocimientos en rehabilitación de estructuras, carpintería, canalización, electricidad y mecánica.
  • Por lo menos 5 años de experiencia de trabajo en países en vías de desarrollo y/o contextos remotos y de emergencias.
  • Capacidad de gestión de grupos de trabajo con bajo nivel de formación. Capacidad para trabajar en equipo, con experiencia en la formación del personal a su cargo, coaching y tutorías.
  • Excelentes capacidades de planificación, gestión y coordinación, con capacidad de organizar una carga de trabajo exigente compuesta por tareas y responsabilidades desafiantes.
  • Experiencia en la elaboración de presupuestos y la planificación de adquisiciones, respetando las indicaciones de sus superiores y optimizando los recursos de la empresa.
  • Fuerte comunicación (escrita y hablada) en portugués e inglés, y sólidas habilidades interpersonales y de presentación, conciencia cultural y capacidad improvisar y comunicarse clara y efectivamente bajo presión.
  • Habilidades informáticas (es decir, dominio del paquete de Office, Outlook, Internet Explorer, sistemas financieros)
  • Buena comprensión del cumplimiento con los donantes y el trabajo con proyectos financiados.
  • Flexibilidad para trabajar en contextos difíciles y, a veces, inseguros, así como para viajar con poca antelación según sea necesario.
  • Compromiso y comprensión de los objetivos, valores y principios de Fundación IBO. En particular, aceptación del código ético y de las normas de seguridad.
  • Compromiso mínimo de 2 años.

  • Conocimientos técnicos en la elaboración de planos de obras y diseños técnicos de instalaciones.
  • Experiencia docente.
  • Colaboración previa con ONGs o grupos de voluntarios.

Maujudo

Maujudo

Maujudo tiene 51 años y es natural de Ibo.
He is married and the father of three children: a 27-year-old daughter and two sons aged 17 and 16.
His eldest daughter is married and also lives in Ibo: Maujudo is already the grandfather of a girl and two boys!
One of the sons is at university in Pemba, the younger one at high school in Ibo.
In June 2008 he started working with the Foundation, taking care of the maintenance of the then ship: the MaiMai. He then helped in the construction of the Mwani House buildings, then in the CANI building and in the rehabilitation of St. John the Baptist Church.
He has been with us at Umbila Carpentry and is one of our master carpenters, helping with apprentice training and the work we do.
When he is not working, he helps his wife in small businesses selling produce and on the family farm. He also goes to the mosque.
He likes to spend time at home with his family and says that the days of partying are long gone: 51 years is a long time ago!
Before working with the Foundation, Maujudo was a fisherman. He says he misses fishing, but enjoys his carpentry work more. Since he lives in Ibo, he is never short of sea!

Paula

Paula Coelho, tiene 49 años, y es natural de Pacos de Ferreira (Portugal).
She left her parents’ home at the age of 18 to go to university. She pursued her career (Modern Languages and Literature – Portuguese and English) as a teacher for some time in Portugal, until she decided she wanted to see what else was out there for her.
When she was 35, she decided to volunteer in an orphanage for a year and ended up in Quelimane, Mozambique. In Mozambique she has done different types of work until now she works as a project coordinator for Fundación Ibo.
She always wanted to live in Africa. They say that visitors fall in love with their first country away from “home” and she did. Africa and Mozambique became her second home.
She has a reputation for being very talkative and curious about people and cultures. Photography and reading are some of her favorite hobbies. Photography and reading are some of her favorite hobbies. She enjoys swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving: boats and islands and water adventures. She is lucky to say that she loves spending time with her friends: she has amazing friends.

Eugenia

Eugénia

Eugénia was born in Pemba on February 18, 1991, where she studied Basic Computer Science at Sycamore Services School. Since June 13, 2015 she has been working for IBO Foundation as an administrative assistant.

She is a very determined woman and is eager to continue growing, contributing her knowledge to the project. That is why with the help of Ibo Foundation she started in 2022 her university studies in accounting.

She is very much loved by the entire Ibo community and we are happy to have her as part of our team.

Judite

Judite

Judite collaborates with our Foundation as a field technician in the SEMENTE IBO Project. Tiene 30 años y es madre de tres hijos. He is from Machava (Maputo Province), but has lived in Ibo with his family since 1998.

She has participated in several courses taught by the CCCPI: Computer Science (2014), Bar-Restaurant (2015) and Cooking (2016). The skills she acquired enabled her to work as a waitress at the Ibo Lodge Hotel.

Judite is a very energetic woman and actively participates in the OMM Group (Mozambican Women’s Organization) preparing activities such as dances, marches and songs.
